I have LONG loved having tea with my mom. One of my favorite things to do with her as a young teen was to go and have high tea at a local tea shop.. and that has not changed.

And I will tell you a little secret (that is COMPLETELY true!!) Bigelow Tea was my first tea and has always been my favorite. The 1st tea I loved was Constant Comment, it is my favorite to this day. I also found Lemon Lift a few years ago and that is close second. They are both amazing and bring back so many good memories.

What I enjoy most about Bigelow Tea, #AmericasTea are all the great flavors, and when I buy them to try them out I feel like I can always trust that they will be good. The quality is high and I have never been disappointed.

My mom and I have been “training” my daughters to love high tea, too. It’s just such a wonderful thing to do with other women, especially our moms. So what better than a high Mother’s Day Tea?

I started off my shopping trip (see my entire trip on Google +) with my mom at my local Walmart, checking out all the Mother’s day gifts along the way (but I figured I would leave that up to my hubby!). Then I headed for supplies (yummy food) and the Bigelow tea.. and there it was, my beloved Constant Comment (but the selection wasn’t quite as big as hoped and so no Lemon Lift today). I picked up my things, checked out and got ready to prepare the tea!

We made cookies, tea sandwiches, tarts, gluten free scones (yum), that I serve with a sweetened cream cheese and lemon curd (so good).

We also reviewed our manners!! This is essential when you are learning about high tea!! You will find a printable Manners Sheet for kids (download Adobe Reader to view and print) to help them remember (and make a bit more fun).

We set the table and enjoyed our Bigelow Tea!! It did not disappoint.. the whole event was amazing! There was a bit of talking with mouths full and eating a little to fast, but who cares. And the best part? My mom and I get to pass on our love of tea to my girls, what better Mother’s day gift can you get than that!? Oh, and btw.. my oldest is a fan of Bigelow Constant Comment, too!

Why did the Capon Cross the Road.. WHAT?.. What’s a Capon??

January 29, 2013

So the other day  I went to the store (sort of a health food store). I have been wanted to get my cat a chicken to roast for the fat. She has kidney disease and has a hard time gaining weight. So I was was thinking a little chicken fat might help with that and make her like her yucky food better.

Well, the chicken was kind of expensive but I saw a “capon” in the freezer case for $.99 a lb. But I don’t know what a capon is.. so I ask the meat guy.. he doesn’t know either and goes to ask in the back.

I hear him at the door saying .. “seriously?”

And he comes out and says.. it’s a castrated rooster..

So I bought a castrated rooster..and that is the best durn chicken I have ever eaten.. lol.

and both pets were begging for it..

$300+ Designer Outfit for $23!! Thrift Store Shopping

This Post Contains Affiliate Links - Disclosure Policy

January 17, 2013

I had to come to terms with the thrift store recently. See, in my mind there is kind of a pecking order of places to buy items and how much I will pay for them..

1. New- Pay the most for new items, even on sale.
2. Consignment- I expect to pay more on consignment.
3. Thrift Store- Thrift stores should be cheap.. I expect 1/2 days and $1 bags occasionally.
4. Yard Sales.. everything should be $.25.. (I kid.. sort of.. ).

Well, around here thrift stores are kind of expensive, at least for my “pecking order”. Jeans at the thrift stores here are around $6 and shirts are $4.. and there are no 1/2 off days at the best one in town. This made me sad, because I wanted to pay, maybe $3-$4 for jeans (less would be EVEN better) and $1-2 for shirts.

But then I started thinking.. I can get better brand jeans for $6?? Take away the thrift store and if I found jeans for 6 bucks at the mall I would snatch them up in a flash! So I decided to let it go.. much better.

So now I can snag $300+ out fits like this one for $23.. including the boots! (everything but the bracelet).

The jeans are Abercrombie & Fitch, the shirt is T Los Angeles (which I didn’t think a lot of until I got home and found out it is a boutique brand), the boots are Franco Sarto and I don’t know about the scarf.  I had the bracelet, but other than that the whole out fit was only $23.

So, hat do you think? Worth $300? Worth $23?

Here’s the compared products form online, same brands, just slightly different styles!

Franco Sarto Ravel boots normally $129.00

A&F Straight Jeans Normally $78

T Los Angeles Shirt Run $70-$200

Ruched Scarf- $10-20?

We Ordered Our Life With a Side of Crazy.. How About You??

May 22, 2012

Ok.. so I am going to rant a bit here.  Not too much I think.. but be warned :)

There are 2 more days of school.. not even that, 1 1/2.  Ack!! what am I going to do???? But enough of that, onto the rant..

Why the heck does the end of the school year have to be insane??  The girls have had a spring concert, 2 plays, 1 field trip, kindergarten grad, at least one party and then the last day of school.. All in the span of 22 days.

Seriously.. what are they thinking??

My girls are adopted and do have more issues than the average child, so I am a bit a lot more sensitive to this kind of stuff.  I can see really well when children are in a state of overwhelm.. even kids that are not my own.

Today my oldest daughter had a little play in the auditorium (which was cute and they did a good job) but when it ended mayhem broke loose.. seriously, I saw kids having no clue what to do, many were running around, one was clinging to her teacher, parents were on stage, some kids even started taking down the scenery.. It was chaos.

I immediately grabbed my daughter and held her hand. Then we found a seat and she seemed to be able to regulate herself with my help. I helped her get in line to walk back to class with the other students. But I could tell that other students needed help, too.

I don’t know.. this stuff is fun and exciting.. but how much is enough?? If it were up to me.. I think kids could do without 90% of the “activities” we provide for them. But that is just me.

How about you?

Would You Like Some Coffee with that Cream and Sugar?

This Post Contains Affiliate Links - Disclosure Policy

May 17, 2012

I’m getting older..

Aren’t we all..

But it funny how when you are young you can’t imagine life and the things you like changing.

But they do.. they change a lot.

I used to LOVE candy.. I could eat it all the time.. I could not imagine not liking candy.  A few months ago I ate a Starburst from my daughters valentine’s candy..

It was gross.  And that is coming from a girl who really loved Starburst.

My coffee is the same way.. I am actually developing a taste for it with no sugar (my mom thinks I am nuts).. still need the cream, though.

Life changes and expands much more than our palettes and I am constantly in awe of what a new day brings.  I feel like I am on the edge of something good, I hope so..

How have you changed..?
